Dumped and discarded like garbage, this fragile, emaciated soul was left to fade away, terrified, starving, and utterly alone in the vast wilderness of Worthington State Forest in Columbia, New Jersey.
Old Mine Road winds miles through these woods an isolated stretch along the Delaware River, frequented only by hunters, campers, and the wild creatures that call this forest home.
For days, this poor girl fought to survive without food, shelter, or mercy, surrounded by predators and darkness. Then, a camper’s sighting of her, shared in a desperate social media post, set a miracle in motion. That post reached the right eyes with another rescuer, Kathleen Bowles, who saw that post and reached out to me, asking if the location was near.
Worthington State Forest is, quite literally, my backyard and I know it all too well. Without hesitation, I told her I would take the case.
I immediately contacted my dear friend, Animal Control Officer Bonnie Waseleski. Together, we worked around the clock setting traps, monitoring cameras, camping out in our cars, and taking shifts through the night refusing to give up until this broken, frightened girl was safe.
After three long, sleepless nights… late last night we did it. She is safe. She is no longer invisible.
To the cruel, heartless person who abandoned her to die may karma find you, and find you swiftly.
Tonight, she begins her second chance. Her healing starts now.
