Lily the Knowlton Stray

Posted by Nicole Asher on

For at least five long days, this tiny little girl fought to survive alone in the deep woods of Columbia, New Jersey, a wilderness filled with predators. The fact that she made it out alive is nothing short of a miracle…. She is tiny!

She was first spotted on a trail camera deep in the woods, traversing hundreds of acres. The property owner reached out to me, and we immediately set a trap. But this little survivor had other plans. As I was leaving, I caught sight of her down a remote dirt road. I quickly set up a feeding station and within minutes, she appeared scared, starving, and searching for help.

A trap was set, but a very large bear kept making unwelcome appearances. For safety, I shut the trap down and returned at 3 a.m. to reset it. The bear came back to see what was for breakfast, but I managed to scare him off.

Through the night she trotted by again and again too frightened to commit. But today, her hungry little belly finally led her inside, ending five exhausting days on the run.
She’s now safe and sound at The Green Dog Inn with our amazing ACO, Bonnie Waseleski, who helped me transport her to safety.

We’re now trying to uncover where this little one came from. If you recognize her, please contact us. Whether lost or abandoned, one thing is clear…enough is enough. These innocent souls deserve better.
