After four long days on the run through Hackettstown, New Jersey, little Annie another brave puppy mill survivor is finally safe.
From the moment she vanished, we knew she was terrified. Traumatized dogs like Annie don’t wander far; they hunker down, invisible and silent, waiting for the world to feel safe again. Experience told us that day three or four is often when fear begins to crack and hunger, exhaustion, or instinct draws them out. And today, on day four as anticipated, Annie made her move.
The day she disappeared, we’d spoken to countless neighbors, hung posters, and stopped at a nearby farm on Schooley’s Mountain Road just in case she ventured that way. We told them, “If you see her, please call.”
And this morning, that call came. Annie had been spotted running across the very road we feared most and straight into the fenced pastures of that same farm. We flew there, hearts racing. Though fenced, the property was riddled with gaps where she could have easily slipped through again. Her bonded sister was with us, hoping to draw her in, but the cows startled her, and she bolted toward the farthest edge of the property.
As we frantically scrambled to seal every possible opening, one of the family members and I worked in unison pushing her gently but firmly back each time she attempted to escape, until finally, Annie ran into another partially enclosed area of the farm with goats. I quickly closed gate as she was panicked running back towards me to get back out, knowing she was trapped. She then managed to corner herself between a shed and the fence. In a single breathless moment we had her and she was safe in our arms.
Annie is finally home, her nightmare finally over!
Welcome HOME Annie!
