Six and a half months on the run… TRIXIE in New Windsor, NY has been safely captured!
Trixie went missing March 12th, while on a walk in Plum Point Park in New Windsor, NY.
Fast forward to August 30th. My friend Erin Preiss who lives in New Windsor messaged me that there was a dog on the run in her town and she wanted to seer her safe before winter. It didn’t register with me at first that this was the same dog that I had been contacted about back in March. After searching my lost dog forms, I was able to find Trixie’s back story.
We began compiling sighting locations. Mapping them out, I had a hunch she was most likely hanging out in the Calvary Cemetery. A post was made on social media by a kind woman named Nancy who was concerned for the dog. I was able to get in contact with her as well as another neighbor and was informed that Trixie runs by their streets early mornings. These streets were just a block away from the cemetery!
I headed out a 4am this morning to make the two hour trek up to New Windsor. I wanted to get there and set up before Trixie made her morning rounds. She was known to take a couple different paths and I wanted to make sure she would turn the corner and hit my trap. I made a heavy scent trail of liquid smoke on the street leading around the corner to my trap.
Right on schedule at 7:12am, I watched as Trixie trotted up from the cemetery and down the road. As she was making her way, her nose went straight up in the air, she smelled the liquid smoke. She walked up to the corner put her nose down to the ground and followed the liquid smoke trail straight to the trap. After circling for a short time, she made her way in and after 245 days running scared… Trixie was finally safe!!!!
Calls to the owner have not been returned. Losing a dog is very difficult and extremely emotionally exhausting. I do know the owner tried for quite some time to find her. We do not know where the owner is now so I would ask that people not make any negative comments. Trixie is safe and sound at the Hudson Valley SPCA - Orange County and that is what is important.
Without Erin and Nancy’s kindness and advocating for Trixie, she’d still be out on the streets fending for herself. Thank you Victoria from HV Lost Pets for monitoring the pages and staying in contact through this process.
As always…IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!!
You’re safe now Trixie!!
