After five long days on the run in Vernon, New Jersey, Princess is finally home, safe and sound.
Her family had been six hours into their drive to a long-awaited vacation when the call came: Princess had slipped out of her harness. Without hesitation, they turned the car around and headed straight back, their only thought to bring her home.
For days, Princess stayed within a mile radius of her house, taking refuge in the nearby woods. She was in full flight mode, wary of everyone, even those she loved most. One night, she mustered the courage to return home, scratching at the door in a desperate attempt to get inside. But when her mom opened the door, the sound startled her, and she bolted once again into the night.
We set traps and cameras, determined to outwit her. Under the bright glow of the Sturgeon full moon, I spent the night waiting in my truck, but Princess had her own plans. The next evening, I set a second trap across the street at a property she had been visiting under the cover of darkness. She moved between the two traps, cautious and clever, until, at last, she chose one. The door closed gently behind her, ending her five-day adventure.
Tonight, Princess is where she belongs, wrapped in the arms of her family and her favorite blankies, her great adventure now just a story to tell.
Welcome home, sweet Princess.
